It’s More Common Than You Think

While it was originally believed only to affect women, the statistics show that men are nearly as likely to suffer. Even Academy Award Winner Tom Hanks is supposed to have experienced imposter syndrome.

What is Imposter Syndrome?

Imposter syndrome is a condition where individuals feel like they’re not good enough or capable of doing their job, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. It’s more common than you might think, and it can have a profound effect on an individual’s ability to perform at work. In fact, studies have shown that imposter syndrome can lead to anxiety, stress, and even depression. And when employees are struggling with these issues, it can have a negative impact on the entire company.

Individuals with imposter syndrome often feel like they’re not as competent as their colleagues, even when there’s no evidence to support this belief. This can lead to employees feeling like they’re constantly under pressure to perform, which can be incredibly stressful. In addition, individuals with imposter syndrome are often reluctant to ask for help or delegate tasks, because they’re afraid of being exposed as a fraud. This can lead to employees feeling overwhelmed and unable to keep up with their workload.

Those with imposter syndrome may feel like they’re not deserving of their position or promotion, which can make them feel insecure and unmotivated. Additionally, they are often hesitant to take on new challenges or take risks, because they’re afraid of failing. This can limit an employee’s growth and development and prevent them from reaching their full potential.

Imposter syndrome is a real problem that affects many employees in the workforce. If left unchecked, it can lead to severe mental health issues and negatively impact an individual’s ability to perform at work. While there’s no easy fix for imposter syndrome, raising awareness about the issue is a good first step. Additionally, companies should provide support for employees who are struggling with imposter syndrome. By taking these steps, businesses can create a better working environment for everyone involved.

It’s not what you are that holds you back, it’s what you think you are not.

How Will This Workshop Help?

The imposter syndrome is a feeling of inadequacy in one’s own skills and abilities, regardless of actual qualifications. Sufferers feel like they are just waiting to be found out. It’s “a pervasive feeling of self-doubt, insecurity, or fraudulence despite often overwhelming evidence to the contrary”.

In this one hour workshop it is possible to assist a group to at least reduce the occurrence of this experience without anyone having to declare they have this experience or even share what happens to them. So it respects their privacy.

The one-hour resilience group workshop will equip attendees with the skills they require to identify imposter syndrome in themselves and others and challenge it.

In this one-hour workshop, attendees will learn how to reduce the occurrence of imposter syndrome.

After completing the workshops, attendees will learn:

  • The nature of imposter syndrome
  • How our brain processes information
  • Protocol as a group, with no disclosure required, to alleviate the worst effects.

What the Workshop Covers

As a result of attending, participants should realise that they are more ‘worthwhile’, that they are better than they thought they were, realise that they are perfectly ‘normal’, that they know more than they have acknowledged, and accept that they are not a fraud or a cheat, realising that their ability is not based on luck, but on their skills.
