Long Covid is costing the UK up to £1.5bn a year in lost earnings, researchers say, after the number of people suffering persistent symptoms of the virus doubled over the last 12 months.
The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) said the impact of a rise in long Covid cases from 1 to 2 million showed it was likely to be “a significant part of the pandemic’s legacy”.
Using data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the IFS said about 110,000 of the 2 million sufferers – who must report symptoms for at least three months – were signed off sick, with the loss 4.4m working hours a week.
On average, those who stop work because of long Covid would be losing £1,100 a month in earnings, adding up to a total loss of income of almost £1.5bn a year, though employers that pay to cover sick leave would pick up some of the tab.
Tom Wernham, a research economist at the IFS and an author of the report, said it was clear from the study that “for a significant minority of long Covid sufferers, the condition has severe effects not only on their health but on their ability to do paid work”.
Considered to be a calming practice that places the heart, lungs and circulation into a state of coherence where the systems of the body are working at peak efficiency. There is no more essential technique and none more basic.

Long Covid Workshop
In the workshop for Long Covid, we cover the reasons why this is so debilitating for some and what can be done to ameliorate the symptoms. A variety of different breaths are taught to help downplay the anxiety that often goes with the condition, the breathlessness and balancing the levels of oxytocin as examples.
In this workshop, we will be looking at how breathwork can help relieve, reduce and maybe even get rid of some long covid symptoms.
After the workshop, attendees will be able to:
- Use breath for repair and prevention
- Use breath for general remedying of the fears
- Use breath to reduce breathlessness
- Be able to breathe to balance oxytocin
- Be able to breathe to downregulate overactive inflammatory responses
Menopause Breathing Workshop
In the menopause workshop, we looking at how breathwork can help relieve, reduce and maybe even get rid of some menopause symptoms.
Breaths to help with:
- Sleep issues
- Hot flushes
- Night sweats
- Brain fog
What the Workshop Covers
All breathing workshops are based on a core foundational rhythmic breathing skill
After attending attendees will feel more in control of their health by being able to direct their breath in a way which supports them, knowing that they can now access practices which address their needs in a way which is gentle and safe
These workshops are best taught as short 45 minute long workshops as a series or on request they can be turned into half day events or even day long events.
